The Clerk and Master’s Office maintains records of the Davidson County Chancery Court. The Tennessee Public Records Act provides that public records are open for inspection to any citizen of Tennessee except as otherwise provided by law. Tenn. Code Ann. § 10-7-503(a)(2)(A). State law, common law, court rules, and federal law prohibit the disclosure of certain public records. The Clerk and Master’s Office provides public access computer terminals for inspection of filings in Court cases that are not confidential or protected per state or federal law. Physical files for more recent cases are stored on site. Files for older cases are maintained at an off site archive facility, and delivery to the Clerk and Master’s Office may be requested. Physical files must be viewed in the Clerk and Master’s Office. The office does not require a public records request form for copies of filings in regular court cases. Copies of records may be purchased as follows:
- Regular copy: $.50 per page
- Certified copy: $5.00 for seal and $.50 for each page
- Exemplified copy: $10.00 for the front page and $.50 for each page
